Two Year Old Reasoning

One evening last week I went out with some friends and Dad stayed home with the kids. When I came home he told me about the power struggle he had with our two year old. It seems she found the dog leash and was swinging it around hitting people and furniture with the metal clip on the end. I am as confused as she was as to why her father didn't think this was a good idea. After 15 minutes of discussion and pouting, her father won the battle, she gave back the leash and apologized. Two days later, while her father was at work, she walks into the kitchen where I was standing. She passed by the leash and began this conversation:
her: Can I have the leash?
me: No
her: Pleeease!
me: No, what did your Daddy say about the leash?
her: Daddy's not here.
me: Your Daddy said you couldn't play with it.
her: I won't swing it around, I'll just hold it.

If you know her , then you know those were actually her exact words. Her memory is amazing and so is her ability to reason and communicate.

Earlier in the week we took all of the kids to the mountains for the day.( My kids had already had a week of vacation before the governor so kindly gave us two more days.) We hiked up to a waterfall and decided to have lunch at the tables at the base of the waterfall near the river. We ate, played in the river, and had a very enjoyable, relaxing day. On our way home the 5 year old says " When are we going to have our picnic?"
We say "We did that for lunch."
She says"No we didn't. We ate lunch at a table. A picnic is when you put a blanket on the ground in a big grassy area and eat on the blanket."
We say "You can have a picnic at a table"
The two year old" It's called a picnic table"
So, not only does she have an amazing grasp of the English language, she's also sarcastic. I'm in trouble.

By the way, we stopped on our way home, found a nice grassy area under a big shade tree, spread out a blanket and had a real picnic.

That was a cute story, classic Emma. I could only imagine how much laundry you have to do, I remember seeing your four machines lined up against the back wall of your garage, I figure you probably never get a break from that. And yet you still find time to talk to my daughter. Julia says great things about you all the time, thanks so much for talking to her. I am always there for her as her mom, but I think it's nice to have other adults you can talk to as well. I think God has made some hidden things known in the past year, and one of them is that you really have a rapport with teens and they feel that they can trust you. Perhaps you never knew that about yourself, but now you do. My mom has felt burdened for three years just to pray for our church, let the hidden things be revealed. I noticed she didn't really say, bad or good things, and since then I have been really convinced that God wants to reveal not just hidden problems, but hidden gems, gifts and callings that people just didn't know they had. I guess it's been some year for you and Brian, as I have seen you find a lot of things in yourself that you didn't know were there. I just think it's so great. Goodbye, Because I Said So. Good luck with the laundry.
